Surveying the Sky This Month - Observers Notes
CURRENT MOON

Planets
Mercury is very close to the Sun and rises at 0430 hours. It has a magnitude of 3.66.
Venus very close to the Sun at magnitude –3.56. It sets at 2215 hours.
Mars to the NW of Saturn in Leo at magnitude 1.74.
Jupiter rises at around 2330 hours and has a magnitude of -2.22. It stays low down in Sagittarius.
Saturn is in Leo to the SW near Regulus and has a magnitude of 1.2. Uranus is in Aquarius at magnitude 6.03.
Neptune is in Capricornus at magnitude 7.88.

Nebulae
The Lagoon (M8) in Sagittarius at magnitude 5 and the Triffid (M20) in Sagittarius at magnitude 6.3. Both are diffuse nebulae but they can be seen under good conditions with the naked eye

Clusters
Some fine globular cluster are M13 in Hercules, M12 in Ophiuchus and M10 in Ophiuchus

Stars
Arcturus (orange) in Bootes at magnitude 0.15, Altair (yellow) in Aquila at magnitude 0.75, Vega (bluish-white) in Lyra at magnitude 0, Spica (green) in Virgo at magnitude 0.95 and Antares (red) in Scorpio at magnitude 1.05.

Galaxies
There is no easily observable galaxy this month.

Meteors
Ophiuchids occur between the 17th and 26th June. They peak on June 20th and the ZHR is 5.

Comets
There is no observable comet this month.
